GCWUF BS rules, in plain words
What the GCWUF Rules and Regulations for BS Programmes mean for your GPA and CGPA.
Duration and credit hours
- A BS (Hons) or BBA takes at least 8 and at most 12 semesters, with at least 130 credit hours.
- Two semesters (Fall and Spring) of 18 weeks each a year, 16 of them teaching weeks.
- A full-time student can enrol in up to 24 credit hours a semester, regular and repeat courses together.
- No course carries more than 4 credits.
How a course is marked
- One credit carries 20 marks: a 4-credit course is out of 80.
- Mid-semester exam (9th week) 30%, home assignments, quizzes and presentations 20%, final exam 50%.
- A fraction in a course's total marks is rounded to one decimal place.
- Theory and practical are passed separately, with at least 40% overall.
Attendance
- At least 75% attendance in theory and practical classes, separately in each course, to sit the final exam.
Grades
- A 80–100% (Excellent), B 65–79.99% (Good), C 50–64.99% (Satisfactory), D 40–49.99% (Poor), F below 40% (Fail). See the quality point table.
CGPA you need to continue and graduate
- A CGPA of 1.75 at the end of the first academic year (two consecutive semesters); otherwise admission is cancelled, though fresh admission can be sought.
- From the 3rd semester, a GPA of 1.0 and a CGPA of 2.0 in each semester to stay on the rolls.
- A CGPA of 2.50 out of 4.00 for the award of the degree.
Repeating and improving
- A course can be repeated two times at most (three enrolments in all).
- D grades from earlier semesters can be improved once during the course of study.
- With a CGPA from 1.75 to below 2.50 after all coursework, the courses with the lowest grades may be repeated once to reach 2.50.
Thesis, project or internship
- A thesis, project or internship of 6 credit hours (120 marks) can replace two optional 3-credit courses.
- Opting for research and a thesis needs a CGPA of at least 3.80 after the 6th semester.
